Roller Racking
Roller Racking — High-Density Storage on Tracks
Roller racking is the industrial and warehouse term for mobile shelving — shelving units mounted on wheeled carriages running along floor tracks. Rackstor UK Ltd supplies, installs and maintains roller racking systems across the UK for warehouses, factories, NHS facilities and archive environments.
What Is Roller Racking?
Roller racking uses standard shelving or racking units fixed to wheeled carriages that roll along precision-engineered floor tracks. The carriages compact together when not in use, with only one access aisle needed at any time. This eliminates the fixed aisles between every racking run that consume the majority of floor space in a conventional static installation. The result is storage capacity of up to double that of an equivalent static system in the same floor area.
Roller Racking vs Static Racking
Static racking requires a fixed aisle between every run — in a typical installation, aisles account for more than half the total floor area. Roller racking replaces all of those fixed aisles with a single moveable aisle. For a warehouse with 10 runs of racking, roller racking effectively converts 9 aisles into usable storage — dramatically reducing the floor space required or doubling the storage in the existing space.
Roller Racking for Warehouses
In warehouse environments, roller racking is used for parts storage, small items storage, archive racking and any application where forklift access is not required and density is the priority. Systems are available in light, medium and heavy duty grades to handle the full range of warehouse storage requirements.
Roller Racking for NHS and Healthcare
Roller racking is widely used in NHS hospitals, GP surgeries and pharmacy environments for the storage of patient records, pharmacy stock, sterile supplies and clinical equipment. All Rackstor UK Ltd NHS installations meet infection control requirements and are supplied with PUWER certification.
