The Challenge
A hotel in Central London needed additional storage capacity in its basement. The hotel has intentionally not been named. The location presented every classic Central London access challenge: restricted access, limited delivery areas, narrow corridors, stairs and lifts. With the hotel trading throughout, the work also had to be carried out while minimising disruption to hotel staff and guests. Drawing on around 25 years of industry experience, Rackstor UK Ltd designed, supplied and installed a bespoke mobile shelving system to fit the space exactly.
The Solution
The installation team transported all components down into the basement and assembled the system in situ. Floor tracks were installed accurately, the mobile bases were fitted, and the shelving bays were built and mounted onto them. The completed system was checked for alignment and smooth operation, and safe staff access was confirmed following the installation. Mounted on mobile bases, the system requires only one access aisle, which moves to wherever it is needed.
The Result
The completed installation created 57 linear metres of storage capacity from 10 mobile shelving bays in the hotel basement. By removing permanent access aisles in favour of a single movable aisle, the bespoke system makes far better use of the available basement floor space than static shelving could, while keeping stored items fully accessible to hotel staff. This type of installation suits hotels, offices, archives, hospitals, libraries, museums and retail premises alike.
