The Challenge

Nuffield Health's Oxfordshire facility had 80 bays of existing mobile shelving that had reached the end of its operational life on the original floor tracking system. The floor tracks, bases and carriages had deteriorated to the point where the system was no longer operating safely or efficiently — but the shelving units themselves were in excellent condition and represented a significant asset. The challenge was to replace the failed mechanical components and restore the system to full working order without the cost and disruption of a complete new installation. With patient records and clinical files requiring continuous access, the project demanded careful phasing to avoid disrupting clinical operations.

The Solution

Rackstor UK Ltd dismantled all 80 bays of existing shelving, installed brand new floor tracks, bases and carriage mechanisms, and reinstalled the existing shelving units on the new mechanical system. This approach delivered significant cost savings compared to a full replacement while giving Nuffield Health an effectively new mobile shelving system. New precision-engineered floor tracks were installed and levelled to BS EN 15095 tolerances. New carriage bases and wheel assemblies were fitted, restoring smooth low-effort operation. All safety systems were tested and certified before handover.

The Result

All 80 bays were returned to full operation with a completely renewed mechanical system. The new tracks, bases and carriages restored effortless single-handed operation across the full system. The project was completed with minimal disruption to clinical operations through careful phasing and out-of-hours working where required.
