The Challenge

An NHS trust in Reading required additional storage capacity for an outbuilding on its estate. The facility needed to maximise every square metre of available floor space. The trust needed a system that would dramatically increase storage capacity within the existing footprint, comply with NHS and PUWER 1998 requirements, and be delivered with minimal disruption to the wider estate.

The Solution

Rackstor UK Ltd designed and installed a new manual mobile shelving system specifically configured for the outbuilding's dimensions — optimising the carriage layout to make use of every available metre of floor space. New precision-levelled floor tracks were installed to BS EN 15095 tolerances. Manual handwheel carriages were specified, providing smooth low-effort operation suitable for all staff while avoiding the cost and electrical infrastructure requirements of a motorised system.

The Result

The new mobile shelving installation delivered significantly more storage capacity than any static shelving alternative could have achieved in the same outbuilding. The NHS trust now has a fully compliant, purpose-designed mobile storage system that will serve the facility for 25+ years.
